What is an adangal in Andhra Pradesh land records?

Adangal (also called the Village Adangal or 1B Register) is a land record document in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana that records the possession and cultivation details of agricultural land including the possessor's name, nature of possession, extent of land possessed, source of irrigation, crops grown, and land revenue assessment. It complements the rights-based records like the ROR.

Key Information in an Adangal

  • Survey number and sub-division (thandha) number.
  • Pattadar (owner) name.
  • Possessor's name (may differ from owner if tenant-cultivated).
  • Nature of possession owner cultivated, leased, government.
  • Extent of land total and cultivated area.
  • Source of irrigation borewell, canal, tank.
  • Crop details kharif and rabi season crops.

Adangal in AP vs. Telangana

Since AP and Telangana bifurcation (2014), both states maintain separate adangal systems. Telangana's Dharani portal provides integrated access to land records including adangal. AP's Meebhoomi portal serves a similar function.

Adangal is a critical companion document to ownership records in AP and Telangana it verifies who actually possesses and cultivates the land, which may differ from the registered owner. Any land purchase in these states should include verification of both the pattadar record (ownership) and adangal (possession) to detect tenant rights or third-party possession claims.
